Once you finish the painting part of your Social Artworking canvas, it really isn't finished! When you add a coat of varnish, it makes the colors more vibrant and gives it a professionally finished look. In addition to making your painting look even better, a coat of varnish will protect it from yellowing, dust, and UV rays. Here are a few tips to get the perfect finish:

• Make sure your painting is completely dry or the varnish might mix with the paint and smear.
• Gently wipe away any dust, etc. that might have settled on your painting first.
• Use a separate brush just for varnishing to make sure there isn't any dried paint flakes left that will stick to your painting.
• Lay your painting horizontally over a protected surface. This will help prevent drip marks.
• Apply varnish in even strokes across the painting moving in the same direction each time. 
• Check your coverage by looking at the painting from an angle. You will easily see any missed spots because they will not be shiny. 
• Use a toothpick to carefully remove any debris or brush hairs that might have fallen on your freshly varnished painting before it dries.
• When it is time to let it dry, elevate it slightly so that the drying varnish does not stick to the surface below. You can use an over-turned bowl for this.
• Use a fan to speed up the drying process.
• Apply a second coat of varnish, once the first coat dries, if the coverage appears uneven.
