The chalkboard trend is still going strong and so we wanted to offer you a design variation that encapsulates that for the Christmas season. We've also simplified the design to decrease the painting time.

You must purchase the original pattern and instructions to be able to complete this version.

TIPS FOR PAINTING THIS DESIGN:

  • For the best chalk effect, don't overload your brush with paint or add layers. Allow the background to show through in areas on the letters and wreath design to add to the authenticity of the chalkboard style.
  • You will need white transfer paper (original uses grey) and it is only available in 16 x 20 in the store. You can easily cut it down to 12 x 12 if desired.

Colors Needed:

  • Bright Red
  • Chrome Yellow
  • Deep Red
  • Green Oxide
  • Mars Black
  • Titanium White

For STEP ONE:

  • Use Mars Black

 For TRANSFER PATTERN –

  • Use WHITE Transfer Paper
  • Add serifs to upper left and lower right of “N” as shown.

 OMIT STEP TWO

 For STEP THREE:

  • Use Titanium White to outline or paint ALL elements as shown (berries and pine sprigs are base coated with Titanium White), using No. 2 Round Brush for details, No. 8 Bright Brush for serifs on letters, and handle tip of No. 2 Round brush to base coat berries. Note details on bow and wreath.
  • Use mix of Deep Red, Bright Red and a very small amount of Titanium White (this helps with opacity) to paint insides of letters, inside of bow, and berries. Let dry.
  • Omit Bullets 2 and 3.

 OMIT STEP FOUR

 For STEP FIVE:

  • Use mix of Green Oxide, small amount of Chrome Yellow, and very small amount of Titanium White to paint inside of holly leaves, small leaves on wreath, and (3) pine sprigs as shown.
  • Omit Bullet 2.

 For STEP SIX:

  • Omit Bullets 1, 2, and 3.
  • For Bullet 4, use No. 2 Round Brush and Titanium White to insides of letters and holly leaves as shown.NOEL canvas painting DIY design for Christmas.
